You might be asked:- ¿Cuántas noches?

'How many nights?'

As the title would suggest, these are the basic Spanish phrases you need to check into a hotel, check out of a hotel or reserve a room. The first link on the left has a few more accomodation related expressions with audio recorded by a native Spanish speaker.

On arrival at a hotel, you need to ask for a room. A useful Spanish word for making requests, and which can be used in many situations is Quisiera ... 'I'd like ...'

You can use Quisiera to request a room:-

Quisiera una habitación individual 'I'd like a single room'.

Quisiera una habitación doble 'I'd like a double room'.

If you want a bathroom add:-

Con baño 'with a bathroom'.

It is worth checking whether breakfast is included and the phrase for this is:-

¿Está incluido el seguro? 'Is breakfast included?'.

You will need to say how many nights you are staying:-

para dos noches 'for two nights'

para tres noches 'for three nights'

para cuatro noches 'for four nights'

And so on. See numbers from 1 to 10 for the Spanish numbers with audio.

If you want to see the room ask:-

¿Puedo verla? 'Can I see it?'

And here follows a little basic grammar which while not essential for 'get by Spanish' is key if you want to construct your own phrases or mix different bits of Spanish that you have found on this site and elsewhere. La is a feminine object pronoun. Habitación 'room' is a feminine noun which means that when referring to it, a feminine object pronoun must be used.

If the noun being referred to was masculine then masculine object pronoun is used instead. By means of illustration, and as this is a hotel themed page, baño 'bathroom' a masculinie word will be used. You have asked for a double room with a bathroom, and the Spanish phrase for this is:-

Quisiera una habitación doble con baño 'I'd like a double room with a bathroom'.

But, now you want to look at the bathroom, and you have to say:-

¿Puedo verlo? 'Can I see it?'

Using lo, the masculine object pronoun.

Checking out of the Hotel

Rather like in England, you normally don't need to say anything particular as it is pretty obvious what you are doing when you appear at reception with your suitcases maletas and hand your key over.

But if you do want to say something when checking out, the easiest phrase to use:-

Quiero pagar la cuenta 'I want to pay the bill'.

La cuenta is also used in restaurants when you are ready to pay.
