La cuesta means 'the hill'. Voy cuesta arriba (I'm going uphill) literally means 'I am going hill upwards'. This is shortened from Voy cuesta arriba is shortened from Voy cuesta hacia arriba meaning 'I am going hill towards upwards'. Ditto for down.

Mano meaning 'hand' is feminine (despite ending in o) giving 'a mano derecha'.
